Filmmaker Taika Waititi posted a message on social media on October 31 addressing negative critical reception for his film Klara and the Sun. Deadline, The Wrap, and The Hollywood Reporter reported that Waititi published an Instagram post sharing the film's promotional poster alongside its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Deadline, the film held a 78 percent audience score, which later dropped to 73 percent. The Hollywood Reporter noted a 28 percent critics score on the platform, while Deadline reported the score at 26 percent. [1][2][3]

According to The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi described critics as sad lost souls who could not achieve their dreams of becoming artists. Variety and Deadline reported that Waititi called critics irrelevant, out of touch, and obsolete. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter noted that Waititi claimed he has not read a review in almost 15 years, but said he listens to the audience instead. Variety reported that the comments came amid low box office performance. [1][2][3][4][5]

The film stars Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The feature is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's 2021 dystopian novel of the same name. As FTMQ Film and TV reported earlier, the screenplay was co-written by Waititi and Dahvi Waller, with the film making its world premiere at the London Film Festival on October 15, 2026, before a scheduled theatrical release on October 23.
