Director Rian Johnson and cinematographer Steve Yedlin have launched Chromagraph, a new camera application designed for the iPhone. IndieWire reported that Yedlin designed the software to give mobile photography a more cinematic look by applying complex mathematical color science to the device hardware. Collider reported that the application sells for $12.99 and reached the number one spot on Apple's Photo and Video chart. [1][2]

The software incorporates digital image processing tools developed across decades of production work. As FTMQ Film and TV reported earlier, Johnson and Yedlin have collaborated for nearly 30 years, utilizing this custom visual pipeline on feature projects including Brick, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the Knives Out franchise. IndieWire added that Yedlin has spent more than 20 years researching the science of color display and image craft. [1][8]

The release represents a commercial expansion of proprietary filmmaking technology into consumer software. According to Collider, the application brings the visual processing style of the Knives Out series directly to standard iPhone cameras. IndieWire noted that the application relies on custom mathematical transformations to manipulate how the smartphone camera handles light and color data. [1][2]
