Indonesian filmmaker Ariani Darmawan has made her feature directorial return with Jani Be Good, which screened in the Asian Future competition section at the Tokyo International Film Festival, Variety reported. The feature marks the director's return to filmmaking following a hiatus that lasted over ten years, during which she stepped away from directing to raise her family. [1]
The narrative explores themes of silence and motherhood by focusing on four women across three generations of a Chinese-Indonesian family, according to Variety. Darmawan stated that returning to filmmaking was her primary goal after taking more than a decade off to care for her child and family. [1]
