Clive Barker is developing new ideas for the Hellraiser film franchise following the release of the video game Hellraiser: Revival. Deadline and the AV Club reported that the writer and director of the original 1987 film plans to remain involved in the expansion of the property. Speak to Dread Central, Barker noted that the response to the game served as a wake-up call and reignited his interest in future projects. [1][2][6]
The survival horror title was developed and published by Saber Interactive in collaboration with Barker. The game features extreme gore and sexual themes, which the AV Club noted has led to YouTube channel shutdowns and strong reactions from players. The project was released in October 2026 across multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2. [1][2][9]
Barker directed and wrote the original 1987 Hellraiser film, which was adapted from his own novella, The Hellbound Heart. The project launched a long-running media franchise centred around the Lament Configuration and supernatural entities known as Cenobites. Saber Interactive collaborated directly with Barker on the narrative and design elements of the 2026 interactive adaptation. [1][2][9]
Barker stated that he has many ideas on where to take the property next across screen media. While no formal film production, financing package, or distribution agreement has been announced by a major studio, Barker indicated that he intends to maintain creative involvement in upcoming iterations.
