Fox Corp. has completed its 22 billion dollar acquisition of streaming platform Roku ahead of schedule. The Hollywood Reporter, AV Club, New York Post, Los Angeles Times, Senal News, Awful Announcing, and TradingView all reported that the deal has closed. The acquisition gives Fox control of a distribution interface present in millions of households. [1][2][3][4][6][7][11]
The transaction closed faster than industry expectations. AV Club and Los Angeles Times Company Town reported that the deal was not initially expected to finalize until the first half of 2027. According to Los Angeles Times Company Town, Roku will now sit alongside Tubi and Fox One in a new division co-led by Anthony Wood. AV Club reported that Fox previously acquired the free streaming service Tubi in 2020. [2][5]
The United States Department of Justice granted antitrust clearance after Fox agreed to specific operational concessions. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported that Fox committed to carrying non-Fox movies and television shows on the platform for at least three years. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox also agreed to maintain safeguards through at least 2029 to prevent sharing sensitive audience data and search queries from rival content providers. [1][10]
Under the regulatory agreement, Fox must ensure competing services are not demoted in search results or denied prominent home screen placement. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Fox will also make audience data available to third parties as part of the antitrust settlement. [1]
