Emily Osment requested intimacy coordinator during Young Sheldon production

Actress Emily Osment requested an intimacy coordinator on the set of the CBS television comedy Young Sheldon due to an age gap with her on-screen love interest, Montana Jordan. The Wrap and Variety both report that Osment was 30 years old while Jordan was 18 when they filmed their romantic scenes. [1][2]

According to The Wrap, Osment spoke with producer Tim Marx to request the coordinator because she felt uncomfortable with the planned kissing scenes. The production was unable to secure an intimacy coordinator on short notice for that specific day, but Osment brought in the professional help for subsequent episodes. [1]

Variety reported that the details surrounding the request were revealed in Jessica Radloff's book, Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw's-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy. Although the broadcast network series did not feature explicit sex scenes, Osment still sought professional oversight for the physical romance moments. [2]

In additional background on the franchise, TV Line reported that series co-creator Chuck Lorre was prepared to abandon the spin-off project entirely before shooting the first episode. Lorre and co-creator Steven Molaro only proceeded after casting Iain Armitage in the title role of young Sheldon Cooper. [3]
