The survival thriller Whalefall is launching a free audio commentary feature through the TheaterEars app to encourage moviegoers to return to cinemas. Collider reported that the feature begins on October 23, while ComingSoon reported that the feature is available in theaters across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The app synchronizes directly with the audio of the film through the smartphone of the user. [1][2]
According to Collider, the theatrical commentary contains input from director and co-writer Brian Duffield, novel author and co-writer Daniel Kraus, and editor Pietro Scalia. ComingSoon noted that the free feature is listed as the Director's Experience on the app. [1][2]
As FTMQ Film and TV reported earlier, 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment released Whalefall in theaters. Directed by Brian Duffield, the film is based on the 2023 novel by Daniel Kraus and stars Josh Brolin and Austin Abrams alongside Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd. The plot follows a scuba diver swallowed alive by a sperm whale while searching for his father. [8][10]
The marketing initiative follows the initial theatrical rollout of the film. ComicBookMovie.com reported that Whalefall experienced a rough opening weekend at the box office. [5]
