Actor Ben Wang is in talks to play Bobby Drake, also known as Iceman, in Marvel Studios upcoming X-Men feature film, Deadline and The Wrap reported. According to Deadline, Wang has entered negotiations for the role ahead of his appearance in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Marvel Studios could not be reached for comment, Deadline said. [3][5]
According to ComingSoon, Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly, and Rhenzy Feliz also tested for the role of Iceman before Wang emerged as the primary candidate. ComingSoon noted that the casting choice generated discussion online regarding the age of the actor. ScreenRant reported that Jake Schreier is directing the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot. [1][2][7]
If secured, Wang will join a cast that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Asa Germann as Angel, according to The Wrap. The Wrap reported that the film will also feature Inde Navarrette and Adam Driver. Jean Grey, Cyclops, Angel, and Iceman represent four of the original five X-Men members introduced in the 1963 Marvel comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. [3]
20th Century Fox originally acquired the film rights to the X-Men characters from Marvel for 2.6 million dollars in 1994, Wikipedia describes. The studio launched the original film franchise with the release of X-Men in 2000, which achieved commercial success and renewed interest in comic book adaptations. [8]
