Author Michael Connelly has clarified why the upcoming prequel series Bosch: Start of Watch is releasing on MGM+ rather than Prime Video, ScreenRant reported. The new television series will wind the clock back to explore the earlier years of the Harry Bosch character. [1]
The character first appeared on television in 2014 in the Prime Video drama Bosch, which starred Titus Welliver and ran for seven seasons until 2021, ScreenRant reported. Welliver later reprised his role in the follow-up series Bosch: Legacy. [1]
Michael Connelly, Tom Bernardo, and Eric Overmyer developed Bosch: Legacy as a sequel to the original series. The show premiered on Amazon Freevee on May 6, 2022, and featured returning cast members Mimi Rogers and Madison Lintz alongside Welliver. [2]
The Bosch television universe also expanded with Ballard, created by Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood. Starring Maggie Q as detective Renée Ballard, the spinoff debuted on Amazon Prime Video on July 9, 2025, and received a second season renewal in October 2025. [4]
