Jamie Dornan has addressed taking over the role of Aragorn from Viggo Mortensen in the upcoming feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, SlashFilm reported. The recast sees Dornan assume the iconic J.R.R. Tolkien character in the project scheduled for release next year. [1]

According to SlashFilm, the new entry in the franchise is planned as a standalone feature film, though additional projects set in Middle-earth remain in development. Dornan addressed the pressure of replacing Mortensen in the prominent role as production details emerge. [1]

Dornan previously starred in the crime drama series The Fall, which premiered in 2013 on RTÉ and BBC Two. The actor's previous film credits include Fifty Shades of Grey and A Haunting in Venice, SlashFilm reported. [1][9]

The project expands on the original film trilogies produced by Peter Jackson. The upcoming release is directed by Andy Serkis, who also stars as Gollum alongside a cast that includes Ian McKellen, Kate Winslet, Leo Woodall, Lee Pace, Elijah Wood, and Anya Taylor-Joy. [11]
