Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have released a new red band trailer for the upcoming horror reboot and sequel The Exorcist: Martyrs. FlickDirect and Film Stories both reported that the project is written and directed by Mike Flanagan. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as New York City detective Julie Miller, who investigates a crime scene linked to demonic forces and serial killers. [1][2]
According to FlickDirect, the storyline follows Detective Miller 13 years after she ended the reign of a serial killer known as Father Sunday. Miller discovers her name written in an altar boy's blood inside a church crypt, initiating an investigation that connects notorious serial killers to supernatural evil. Film Stories reported that the project combines elements of a police thriller with demonic themes. [1][2]
The ensemble cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Diane Lane, Scoot McNairy, Gil Bellows, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle, and Jacobi Jupe, according to FlickDirect. The franchise began with the 1973 supernatural horror film directed by William Friedkin and produced by William Peter Blatty. [1][5]
As FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier, the feature is produced by Blumhouse, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and Red Room Pictures. Universal Pictures has scheduled The Exorcist: Martyrs for a theatrical release on March 12, 2027. [6]
