Producers Jason Blum and James Wan presented the upcoming Blumhouse Atomic Monster film slate during a 90-minute panel at New York Comic-Con on Friday night. Variety reported that the studio executives addressed their project pipeline following strong box office results for their recent release Other Mommy. The report stated that Blumhouse will release a new Exorcist franchise entry starring Scarlett Johansson within the next year, while actress Kristen Bell has joined the cast of Violent Night 2. [1]

The panel announcement follows the debut of Other Mommy, a horror release starring Jessica Chastain, Jay Duplass, and Arabella Olivia Clark. Reviews for the film turned negative upon release, according to Gold Derby and iNews Zoombangla. Despite the critical reception, iNews Zoombangla reported that the movie was projected to secure the number one position at the box office over its opening weekend. Variety noted that the studio executives brushed off negative reviews due to the title's commercial performance. [1][2][4][7]

Critical response focused on the film's execution and promotional campaign. According to the Guardian, early interest in the project was driven by a trailer that accumulated over 30 million views on YouTube and generated widespread internet memes. However, the Guardian described the film as a kept-from-critics shocker, while the AV Club characterized it as an overwrought haunted-kid horror movie. [3][6]

Kristen Bell, who joined the studio's Violent Night 2, began her professional acting career on stage before making her Broadway debut in the 2001 musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Blumhouse Productions will continue to roll out its upcoming slate over the coming year, including the new Exorcist project. [1][9][10]
