The live action feature film Street Fighter, which debuted in theaters on October 16, 2026, has broken the all time domestic opening weekend box office record for the video game adaptation franchise, ScreenRant reported. Directed and co-written by Kitao Sakurai, the film is dramatically outperforming previous cinematic entries in the property. [3]

The commercial surge follows early negative reactions from professional reviewers, as FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier. Esports.gg reported that while professional critics were skeptical of the release, fans have reacted positively to the movie. [2][15]

SlashFilm reported that Australian MMA fighter Alexander Volkanovski plays the role of Joe in the 2026 film. The character originally appeared in Capcom's original 1987 Street Fighter arcade game. ScreenRant separately reported that the ensemble cast features Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Eric Andre, David Dastmalchian, and Rayna Vallandingham. [1][6][13]

The theatrical project was produced by Legendary Pictures, as FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier. ScreenRant reported that the narrative clearly establishes setup for a potential follow-up entry. [7][15]
