Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has stated that he has figured out his planned television series adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel series The Dark Tower, according to reports from the AV Club and IGN. Speaking on The Process Unlocked podcast while promoting his television series Carrie, Flanagan revealed his plan for the adaptation and noted that seventy percent of his job is done for him by Stephen King's original text, IGN reported. [2][6][7]

Flanagan stated that his approach to the television project will be remarkably faithful to the source material, IGN reported. ScreenRant and MovieWeb both report that the director's update signals a promising adaptation strategy that aims to avoid common pitfalls seen in previous Stephen King screen adaptations. However, as the AV Club noted, viewers should not expect immediate development movement on the television series just yet. [1][2][6][7][8]

As FTMQ Film and TV reported earlier, Flanagan recently created an eight-episode series adaptation of Stephen King's debut novel Carrie for Amazon Prime Video. That production incorporates narrative references to King's broader literary universe, including explicit ties to The Dark Tower. Flanagan previously directed feature film adaptations of King's work, including Doctor Sleep in 2019 and The Life of Chuck in 2024. [10][13][14]

Flanagan is currently focused on promoting the Carrie series for Prime Video while his Dark Tower project remains in development, according to the AV Club. Further production timelines and network commitments for The Dark Tower have not yet been announced. [2][7]
