Actor Ron Perlman reiterated his commitment to starring in a potential third Hellboy feature if director Guillermo del Toro returns to complete their planned trilogy. Speaking in an interview with Deadline, the 76-year-old actor stated that he continues to advocate for finishing the narrative left unresolved in the 2008 installment. [1][2][3]
The AV Club and Deadline both reported that Perlman noted the original films were conceived as a trilogy. In Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the storyline concluded with the character Liz Sherman pregnant with twins, while narrative promises regarding Hellboy being summoned to destroy the world remained unaddressed. [1][3][10]
Perlman emphasized that he has no interest in participating in any alternative versions of the property outside of del Toro's direction. The AV Club reported that the actor expressed willingness to return to the prosthetics-heavy lead role to complete the storyline even at an advanced age. [1]
Perlman previously starred as the Dark Horse Comics character in Hellboy in 2004 and the 2008 sequel Hellboy II: The Golden Army, both of which were written and directed by del Toro. Beyond his franchise work, Deadline reported that Perlman currently has multiple features in production, including an upcoming Ernest Hemingway biographical film slated to shoot in Cuba. [3][9][10]
