The prosecution opened its case against actor and comedian Russell Brand at Southwark Crown Court in London, describing him as a ruthless and calculated sexual predator. BBC News and The Hollywood Reporter both report that the prosecutor alleged Brand possessed an indiscriminate and voracious desire for sexual contact. [1][2][4][5][6]

The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline report that Brand faces seven charges involving six women, consisting of three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Brand has vehemently denied all allegations. Deadline added that prosecutors alleged three of the accusers were working in the British television and radio industry when the events took place. [2][3][4]

BBC News reported that the six female complainants have never met each other. The prosecution stated in court that Brand could be charming and likeable when seeking something in return, but was demanding and entitled in his behavior. [1][6]

The jury selection took place on Monday and Tuesday, establishing a panel of eight men and four women. Brand arrived at the court on Wednesday accompanied by his wife, Laura, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. [2]

Brand originally gained public attention as a stand-up comedian and presenter, hosting the television show Big Brother's Big Mouth on E4 before appearing in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall. [3][4][11]
