Actress Mia Goth has filed a complaint with Instagram after an AI-generated image of her went viral following news of her divorce from actor Shia LaBeouf. The AV Club, The Wrap, Variety, and ComingSoon reported that a fake selfie circulated on the platform via a verified fan account named miagoth_. [1][2][3][4]
The fabricated image showed Goth wearing a shirt with text reading MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN, according to Variety and ComingSoon. Representatives for Goth stated that it is incomprehensible that Instagram prioritizes the dissemination of forged images over protecting a public figure's likeness, as reported by The Wrap and Variety. The AV Club and The Wrap noted that Goth does not hold any personal social media accounts. [1][2][3][4]
The AV Club reported that Goth filed for divorce from LaBeouf last week, ending a 10-year relationship. The pair originally met on the set of Lars von Trier's film Nymphomaniac: Vol. II in 2013, where Goth made her acting debut. She later achieved a career breakthrough starring in the X film series from 2022 to 2024. [1][10][12]
ComingSoon reported that the fake image was allegedly created using Meta AI tools before spreading online. Instagram is an image-sharing platform owned by parent company Meta Platforms. [4][11]
