Director Rob Reiner and actor Richard Dreyfuss were among the Hollywood figures who pursued an unproduced film script titled Prognosis Negative by writer Larry David, according to the AV Club and The Hollywood Reporter. An excerpt from the upcoming biography Emperor Of Nothing: The Making Of Larry David by Blake J. Harris details how the project attracted major industry attention before ultimately falling apart, the two outlets reported. [1][2]

The Hollywood Reporter stated that David wrote the script in 1983 before creating the television comedy Seinfeld. The publication noted that the screenplay emerged on eBay and went viral in May, following reporting by the New York Times. According to the AV Club, the screenplay leaked online last year. [1][2]

The AV Club described Prognosis Negative as a dark comedy about a commitment-phobic man who decides to date a terminally ill woman so he can experience love without long-term commitment. In an excerpt featured by The Hollywood Reporter, David and his former manager Marilyn Black explained how the writer earned high pay for the script and attracted potential interest from Reiner and Dreyfuss before the project stalled. [1][2]

Reiner gained national recognition playing Michael Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family from 1971 to 1979 before moving into feature film directing. His directorial work includes films such as This Is Spinal Tap in 1984, Stand by Me in 1986, The Princess Bride in 1987, When Harry Met Sally... in 1989, Misery in 1990, and A Few Good Men in 1992.
