Actor Jaafar Jackson has confirmed that a planned sequel to the biographical film Michael will address sexual abuse allegations made against his late uncle, the Guardian reported. According to the Guardian and NME, scenes detailing the allegations were removed from the initial release because of legal constraints. The Guardian reported that a legal clause identified late in production prohibited depicting one of the accusers in a fictionalized project. [1][6][8]

The original film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King for Lionsgate, opened on April 24, according to Variety and GoldDerby. Variety reported that Michael became the highest-grossing biopic in history and Lionsgate's largest release ever after crossing $1 billion at the global box office, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody. [1][2][3]

Jaafar Jackson, who is the son of Jermaine Jackson, made his acting debut portraying Michael Jackson in the 2026 film after previously releasing his debut single, Got Me Singing, in 2019. Speaking at a Directors Guild Theater screening in West Hollywood alongside Fuqua and co-stars Nia Long, Colman Domingo, and Juliano Krue Valdi, Jackson described the intense physical rehearsal required to recreate the singer's performances, GoldDerby reported. [2][11][13]

In addition to his work on the franchise, Jackson will be recognized alongside Chris Rock, Quinta Brunson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor at the ninth annual Critics Choice Association's Celebration of Black Cinema and Television on November 16, Deadline reported. [5]
