Ben Wheatley replaces Rob Savage on Paramount horror movie Molepeople

Director Ben Wheatley has been selected to direct the upcoming horror film Molepeople for Paramount Primal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, according to reports by Variety, Deadline, and ComingSoon. The director swap follows the departure of original director Rob Savage and lead actor LaKeith Stanfield. [1][2][3]

Variety and Deadline reported that Savage exited the production due to scheduling conflicts. ComingSoon and Deadline both noted that the departures were amicable, though no official reason was disclosed for Stanfield leaving the cast. Ben Mendelsohn remains attached to star in the feature film. [1][2][3]

The project is co-financed and co-produced by Paramount Primal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. As FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier, Paramount holds worldwide distribution rights and has previously set a theatrical release date for August 27, 2027. [2][3][14]

Savage previously directed Host, Dashcam, and The Boogeyman. His recent release, Other Mommy, captured the domestic box office lead with a 27.5 million dollar opening weekend, as FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier, despite receiving poor reviews from film critics. [1][11][13]
