A Maryland teenager filed a defamation lawsuit against CBS News in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Deadline and TheDesk.net reported. The lawsuit seeks at least $20 million in damages over a report about arrests for alleged vandalism of the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. [1][3]

According to Deadline, the plaintiff is identified as JV, a 15-year-old high school student. His attorneys state that the CBS News report falsely linked him to the arrests made for vandalism last summer, despite police stopping him for a completely different reason. [1]

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is a 2,028-by-167-foot concrete-bottomed pool located on the National Mall between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. It was dedicated in 1922 and holds approximately four million US gallons of water. [6]

The legal challenge comes as Skydance aims to complete its $110 billion merger of Paramount, the parent company of CBS News, and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to The Wrap. Skydance target at least $6 billion in cost reductions across the combined entity while promising to keep CBS News and CNN editorially independent. [2]
