Skydance chief executive officer David Ellison told CNBC on Thursday that the combined media company is positioned to win in every single vertical. The announcement followed the official closing of the transaction between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery earlier in the week. The combined business includes the Paramount and Warner Bros. film studios, the CBS broadcast network, pay TV channels, and the Paramount+ and HBO Max streaming services, CNBC Media reported. As FTMQ Film & TV reported earlier, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan rejected an emergency petition to halt the deal, which valued Warner Bros. Discovery at more than 100 billion dollars. Deadline reported that Ellison described the merger as the solution to legacy media companies failing to pivot quickly enough when tech firms entered the market a decade ago. According to The Wrap, co-chief executive officer Ynon Kreiz noted that CNN and CBS News will operate independently while the company targets 6 billion dollars in operational synergies. The Wrap and Variety both report that Jay Askinasi has been appointed head of advertising sales, David Decker will oversee content sales, and Ray Hopkins will serve as president of distribution. [3][5][6][7]

The Wrap reported that Skydance extended the employment contracts of its executive team following the transaction. Ellison and president Andy Gordon will remain in their positions through at least August 2031, chief legal officer Makan Delrahim through October 2031, and chief financial officer Dennis Cinelli through January 2032. All four executives received compensation increases and will be eligible for annual equity awards starting in 2027. [4]

Skydance stock rose 6 percent to 9.42 dollars halfway through Thursday trading, according to Deadline. The gain occurred after Ellison and other senior executives rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Deadline reported that the increase recovered most of the losses recorded on Wednesday following the deal closing. [2]
