Production on the upcoming West Texas-set Grey's Anatomy spin-off is moving from California to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The AV Club and The Wrap reported that 20th Television and Shondaland decided to relocate the project after failing twice to receive tax incentives from California. Collider and TV Insider both reported that ABC officially ordered the series, which is produced by Shonda Rhimes and centers on a rural medical center. [1][2][5][6]

The relocation has delayed the release schedule for the upcoming medical drama. According to reports from the AV Club, TV Insider, and Yahoo News UK, the series was originally slated for a midseason 2027 release. After 20th Television applied for tax credits last year and delayed production to reapply, the launch was pushed back to the 2027-2028 television season. [1][6][8]

Shondaland executive producer Betsy Beers stated that the company lost time, personnel, and money while attempting to remain in Los Angeles before receiving the second rejection, according to The Wrap and Yahoo News UK. The flagship series, Grey's Anatomy, has filmed in Los Angeles for 23 years. [1][5][8]
