The long running series returned for its 28th season on NBC on Thursday, October 8, according to TV Insider and Collider. [1][2][4]

Ice T initially joined the drama for a four episode arc during its second season before taking on a permanent role as Detective Odafin Fin Tutuola, Variety reported. The performer stated that he remains committed to his long standing role on the production, describing his tenure on the series as being on a good treadmill that he wants to stay on, Variety said. The franchise centers on New York City police detectives investigating specialized offenses and is produced by Wolf Entertainment for NBC, according to Wikipedia. Mariska Hargitay continues in her role as Olivia Benson, a character who has progressed from detective to commanding officer across the run of the series, TV Insider reported. [2][8]

The premiere of the 28th season comes as the broadcast drama continues to manage cast transitions among its supporting roster of detectives behind lead character Olivia Benson, Collider reported.
