Disney and Marvel Studios have reclaimed the top spot on the all-time global box office chart with the theatrical reissue titled Avengers Endgame: Encore. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline both reported that the 2019 blockbuster brought its cumulative global gross to 2.9255 billion dollars, surpassing the 2.9237 billion dollars earned by Avatar. The Wrap reported that the film added 126 million dollars during its reissue to secure the record. [1][2][3][4]
The theatrical rerelease is timed to build commercial momentum for the upcoming feature Avengers: Doomsday, which Deadline reported is scheduled for release on December 18. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the recent weekend play generated 4.4 million dollars domestically and 14.4 million dollars from international territories. The Wrap reported that the total gross generated by the reissue included 36.2 million dollars domestically and 89.8 million dollars overseas. [1][2][3][4]
The Anthony and Joe Russo directed superhero film was original released in 2019 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures as the direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. Avatar held the top box office spot for a decade after its initial 2009 theatrical launch through Twentieth Century Fox before the two titles repeatedly exchanged the all-time grossing title through theatrical re-releases. [1][3][11][12]
Box office collections remain the primary industry metric for trade publications measuring commercial performance due to the immediate availability of theatrical revenue data compared to home video and broadcast rights. Marvel Studios is utilizing the theatrical engagement strategy to prime audiences for its next broad cinematic release later this year. [1][3][11]

- Avengers Endgame reached 2.9255 billion dollars in total global earnings to surpass Avatar.
- The theatrical reissue contributed 126 million dollars to the lifetime total gross of Avengers Endgame.
