Neon has set its Oscar campaign strategy for Luca Guadagnino's film Artificial, Variety reported. The independent distributor is submitting Andrew Garfield in the supporting actor category, while co-star Yura Borisov will be campaigned in the lead actor category. [1]
Garfield portrays OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman in the feature, which depicts the executive's removal and subsequent return to the company five days later, according to Variety. ComingSoon reported that Altman addressed the portrayal in an interview with Vanity Fair, noting that while the production takes creative liberties, Garfield accurately captured his physical walk. [1][2]
The campaign strategy places Garfield back in the supporting category sixteen years after his performance in The Social Network, Variety reported. Neon, which was founded in 2017 by chief executive Tom Quinn and Tim League, handles the theatrical distribution for the feature. [1][4]
The Academy Awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize achievements in cinematic production. The Best Supporting Actor category has been awarded by the organization since the ninth annual ceremony. [3][5]
