Jessica Chastain defends public criticism of Apple TV over series delay

Jessica Chastain has publicly defended her decision to criticize Apple TV for postponing her upcoming series The Savant. Speaking in an interview with Net-A-Porter published on Monday, the actor stated that she felt an obligation to speak out about the delay. The Wrap and Variety reported that Apple TV delayed the project last year following the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk. [1][2][3]

The AV Club, The Wrap, and Variety all report that Chastain felt responsible to the cast, crew, and the real-life figure her character is based on. In the series, she plays an undercover investigator known as the Savant. Chastain expressed that she needed to go on record that she thought the initial postponement was a mistake, while maintaining respect for the platform. [1][2][3]

The series had previously been removed from the 2025 calendar after its initial pause. According to The Wrap, The Savant has returned to the Apple TV schedule and is now scheduled to premiere in spring 2027. [1][2]

Chastain is an Academy Award winning actor and producer known for starring in projects with feminist themes. Alongside her television work, Netflix recently released a trailer for her upcoming film Heartland, directed by Shana Feste, which features Chastain as a country musician searching for her missing niece.
