Francis Ford Coppola will bring his self-financed science-fiction feature Megalopolis back to cinemas for a limited theatrical engagement, Crave Online, ComingSoon, and Deadline reported. ComingSoon noted that the single-day event is scheduled for October 24 at cinemas across the United States. Deadline reported that Reading International Incorporated has booked the film at its venues nationwide, spanning locations from New York to Hawaii. [1][2][4]

The upcoming theatrical engagement will include an interactive live-streamed question and answer session with Coppola, according to ComingSoon and Deadline. In a statement released to Deadline, Coppola expressed enthusiasm for presenting the film in cinemas as originally intended and participating in the simultaneous multi-theater session. Coppola self-financed the project and chose not to issue physical U.S. media or release the film on domestic streaming services, Deadline and the AV Club reported. [2][3][4]

The theatrical re-release follows the initial 2024 launch of the film, which failed to recoup its production costs during its original run, Crave Online and ComingSoon reported. Reports differed regarding the exact budget and revenue figures for the production. The AV Club stated that the film grossed 14 million dollars globally against a 120 million dollar budget, while ScreenRant reported that the picture bombed against a 136 million dollar budget. [1][2][3][6]

Coppola is an American screenwriter, producer, and film director whose career spans over six decades, during which he has directed 23 feature films. His self-financed production of Megalopolis represents one of his most prominent recent creative investments. [12]
