AAFCA Names Honorees for Fifth Annual Broadway Luncheon

The African American Film Critics Association has selected Tony winner André DeShields, Tony nominee Brandon Dirden, and Emmy winners Jasmine Cephas Jones and Cheryl Wills as honorees for its fifth annual AAFCA Goes to Broadway Luncheon, Variety and Yahoo both reported. The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 12, at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse in New York City's Theater District. [1][3]

DeShields, Dirden, Cephas Jones, and Wills are being recognized for their contributions to theater and media. Variety reported that the luncheon aims to celebrate creative voices and career milestones within the Broadway community. [1]

Dirden is best known for portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in the Broadway production of All the Way. Cephas Jones, the daughter of actor Ron Cephas Jones, studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and has won both a Grammy Award and an Emmy Award. [4][5][6]

The announcement comes as Broadway prepares for upcoming productions this season, including the limited Broadway run of the Pulitzer finalist play Here There Are Blueberries by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich, Deadline reported. [2]
